Design Portfolio > Flyboy Sculpture

This sculpture was developed from Hebru Brantley's Flyboy. The final form was created by scanning one of the artist's toys. The mesh was then posed and rigged in Blender with final form exported to and engineered in Solidworks. The foam parts were programmed in Powermill and carved using a 7 axis Kuka robot.

A steel armature was created to support and connect 7 different components. The sculpture components were milled from 2lb EPS foam, coated in poly-urea hardcoat, finished by hand and clear-coated with a flat teflon protective coating. The lightbulb was manufactured by Ace Glass in borosilicate glass with a neon filament.

The finished sculpture was installed using a Spydercrane in the finished lobby.
